RapidRedact helps MOD release UFO "X-Files" to National Archives
The first in a series of Ministry of Defence UFO "X-Files" have been released to the National Archives, with the help of RapidRedact.
Thousands of pages relating to UFO sightings are being released, and RapidRedact has been used to redact information exempted under the Data Protection Act.
Since the FOI Act came into effect, the MOD has been overwhelmed by a deluge of Freedom of Information Requests relating to UFO sightings. The MOD has decided to release the documents, because they receive more FOI requests on the subject of UFOs than any other.

NZ software could have saved Transit NZ
Transit NZ embarrassment, and Kapiti Coast resident outrage, over the accidental release of “secret” information, could have been avoided with the use of easily-obtainable, economic Wellington software.
The outrage occurred when Kapiti Coast residents learned through “a technical glitch” that about 40 homes, numerous businesses and possibly a school might have to be demolished to make way for a proposed $730 million upgraded coastal highway.
The so-called technical glitch meant that blacked-out sections in online versions of a consultant's report issued by Transit and Greater Wellington Regional Council last month were revealed when copied into a word file.
The fact that the NZ-created software could have easily prevented the embarrassment was disclosed today by the principal of Wellington-based Onstream Systems Ltd, David Kelly. He said the unique software, RapidRedact™, launched last year in NZ, Australia, UK and the United States, provided a foolproof, failsafe method of "censoring or redacting sensitive information from documents before publication".

RapidRedact™ ensures censored text remains unreadable
RapidRedact prevents such embarrassing incidents as the recent publication of classified sections of the official US military inquiry into the accidental killing of an Italian agent in Baghdad.
David Kelly, President and CEO of Onstream Systems, felt compelled to comment on recent media reports on the publication of classified text the US authorities censored from their 40 page report on t he killing by US forces of an Italian Intelligence Agent at an Iraqi checkpoint.
The current embarrassment over the publication of censored portions of the report graphically demonstrate that the redaction (blanking out) methods most commonly used on electronic documents don't work.
"We developed RapidRedact™ as a tool to prevent such incidents occurring", said Mr. Kelly. "It is an economical method of ensuring redacted information is, and remains, redacted. In addition, it completely removes any record of text or author's changes and irrevocably cleans all hidden code or data from 'behind' the document. With RapidRedact, people can snoop or hack to their heart's content but, the information cannot be revealed".

Hacker-proof Software on Show
A New Zealand software company is promising governments worldwide that its software will allow them to release documents knowing deleted or obscured sensitive sections can never be hacked.
Documents using RapidRedact software can be safely released under Freedom of Information and Privacy legislation, says the Wellington-based developer of the product, Onstream Systems.
CEO and director David Kelly says his company's product could have saved the US military considerable embarrassment over a recent computer hacking of confidential information relating to the US killing in Iraq of an Italian intelligence agent.
A German hacker accessed a supposedly protected official US PDF document. The hacker publicised on the internet the unauthorised censored details of Multinational Corps Iraq investigation.
The US government had censored investigator's descriptions of the death of an Italian agent in the rescue of journalist hostage Giuliana Sgrena as a tragic accident.

NZ software could have plugged leak
A New Zealand company says its software could have spared the American military embarrassment when censored information about the death of an Italian secret agent was leaked last week.
The military report was easily cracked by a hacker with just two mousse clicks and subsequently posted in full on Italian newspaper websites.
The report was the result of an investigation into the shooting of intelligence agent Nicola Calipari by soldiers at a US checkpoint in Iraq on March 4. He was taking released Italian hostage Giuliana Sgrena to Baghdad airport. Both Sgrena and the driver of the car were wounded but survived.
